Separation is a metal band from Richmond,Va. Separation was created with the hopes of separating our ideas from the rest of the norm. A break from what is anticipated and expected. The 5 member group originally created in 2003, now reformed since January of 2004 with our current lineup, has combined the diverse musical styles of each member to create music that is explosive, brutal and heavy but also emotionally moving. Heavy pounding guitar driven riffs enhanced by brutal vocals, aggressive bass lines and a full frontal percussive attack all kept in check with a melodic keyboard, ambient colorings and harmonic vocal breaks. After years with the band keyboardist, Mark Sumpter decided to leave the band due to personal issues and has been replaced with Jeff Raatz formerly of Site of Suffering. Separation has released its sophomore album titled Rise of Kings. We wish the best for Mark and look forward to the writing process with Jeff as he will surely "turn up the thrash" while continuing to deliver the melodies that have long been a staple in our music.

I have been playing Guitar for 15 years, but also have been working with live sound and recording for the past 6 years. I’ve been able to record some great bands in Richmond and use that knowledge for help sculpt the sound of Separation.

Donnie Carter
Grew up playing guitar and bass in different bands, but wasn't until moving back to Richmond from Orlando Florida that I met up with Separation and moved to singing. The transition has been pretty smooth and we have been together ever since.

I play guitar. I love metal, especially thrash. I’ve been listening to a lot more progressive music as of late (trying to stay clear of the hardcore/metalcore wave…bit over saturated at the moment). I’m a nerd. I collect old Xmen and spiderman comic books and I love final fantasy and star wars…spend quite a bit of time playing video games.
